A Little Bit About Me
Dr. Wanyoung Kim-Murphy, first name pronounced 'Wonyoung' (and also known as "Wanyoung Kim" in published academic research) is a clinical psychotherapist, human-centred researcher, and UI/UX professional, originally trained as a philosopher. She is an American of South Korean noble descent, with ties to the United Kingdom.
She is an accredited psychoanalytic psychotherapist with active professional memberships. She holds a unique approach for every patient that combines clinical insights from Freudo-Lacanian psychoanalysis with informational dynamic field theory, existential and philosophical therapy, and inter-faith spiritual contemplative therapies from Tibetan Buddhism, Zen Buddhism, and Catholic theology.
Her translation of 'St. John of the Cross and the Problem of Mystical Experience' by French scholar of religions, Jean Baruzi will be released in early 2026, and was undertaken as a post-doctoral research project spanning two years. Dr. Kim-Murphy's doctoral work in the philosophy of mind, completed in 2018 and published as the work 'Cosmophenomenology: The Alterity and Harmony of Consciousness' was one of the earliest published works proposing a rigorously physicalist yet post-materialist framework rooted in quantum theory, an approach increasingly supported by theoretical physics and cognitive science.
A published academic translator of Spanish, French, and German, Wanyoung is also an accomplished academic copy editor who has edited books for Bloomsbury, Palgrave, and Cambridge publishing houses. Dr. Kim-Murphy's research affiliations include Scale AI, the European Journal of Psychoanalysis, Institute for Psychosystems Analysis, and International Renaissance Psychotherapy Association (IRPA).
She holds a PhD and MA in Philosophy, and an MSc in Psychology, all earned with honours or high distinction. Dr. Kim traces her paternal lineage to the noble Gyeongju Kim clan of the Silla Dynasty, and her maternal lineage from the aristocratic Haman clan of the Joseon Dynasty.
